Contains the following types of materials: photographs, photo albums. Covers the following wars: Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII), Korean War, Vietnam War. Contains photographs of the following military units: 5th Special Forces Group; 7th Special Forces Group; 10th Special Forces Group; 31st MSF Battalion; 402nd Infantry Battalion; Mobile Strike Force. General description of the collection: The Medical records photograph collection consists of photos of a military medical nature most of which were taken during the Vietnam War, 1960-1970 with many of these concerning the early American involvement, 1960-1965. Much of that involvement deals with special forces groups working with and training indigenous South Vietnamese soldiers and citizens in both military and civil personal hygiene / farming pursuits. Many of the photos are of medical procedures for terribly wounded soldiers, who were mostly Vietnamese. There are photos of extremely ghastly wounds. Within the Vietnam War part of this collection are also photos of ships, scenery, cities and native villages, compounds and base camps, Vietnamese and American troops; hospitals, surgical procedures, wounds, dental care, personal hygiene training, doctors and nurses and many special forces personnel. There are photos of numerous hospitals in Vietnam, Walter Reed Medical Center and other hospitals, stateside and several in Laos and Okinawa. A few photos were copied from "Green Beret Magazine". In the general part of the collection there are some photos dealing with other military medical subjects such as the history of the Medical Corps and the Army Nurse Corps and a nice group of photos of medical vehicles from the Civil War to helicopter evacuation. This is an especially significant collection for the Vietnam War and medical operations there. 95% of the photographs are uncaptioned and extremely graphic.
